Welcome back Year 2!
Our topic this term is....
Towers, turrets and tunnels
It's nearly the weekend.... let's get reading :-)
We have noticed that the children in Year 2 are not quizzing as often as they were :-(
Could you please ensure your child reads 3 times over the weekend so that he/she is ready to quiz on Tuesday.
Reading is a vital skill that allows children to access all other areas of the curriculum so please encourage at least 10 minutes of reading 5 days a week.
The Year 2 team
18th- 22nd June 2018
This week we spent the week in our new classroom with our new teacher.
It was very exciting and we had a great time with Mr Godfrey!!
We especially enjoyed his story telling and the funny voices he used for different characters.
Design & Technology
This week in D&T we have been evaluating different types of catapults, after trying and testing the catapults we selected the one which we thought would be best.
We then selected a catapult to make.....
... then we tested them out!!!
In Science we are observing how a bulb or seed grows into a plant.
To link with our topic we have planted our very own 'Castle Kitchen', so that we can grow our own vegetables which we will then harvest, prepare and cook!
We are growing potatoes, leeks, radishes, onions and carrots.
Look at how our 'Castle Kitchen' has grown!!!
What green fingers we have in Year 2.
This half term we have been learning cricket skills.
We have learnt how to hold a bat correctly, we have been developing our overarm throw technique and we have also been learning some very important fielding skills.
This week in ART we have started to look
at the work of an artist called Ton Schulten.
Ton uses different tones of colour
to create his artwork.
We have been mastering the skill of
creating tone using paint.
We will use this in another session later in the half term to help us create the sky in our own Ton Schulten inspired artwork.
But for now, look how we have done....
